How to work from home – Even if you dont have a study

26th March 2020

We should all be staying home now, and many of us are working from home, too. If you've never worked from home before, it can be an odd concept. You wake up, and your commute to work is into another room or down the stairs into your dining room! If you have a study, this may differentiate work and home a little more for you, but what else can we do to ensure we're working comfortably throughout the day? We all know that keeping a routine is key, but what else can help us? Keep reading for our top tips.

Keep a routine

As we've just said, a routine is key. Try to get up at the same time every day, get ready in your usual way, eat breakfast, then settle down to work. It's the best way to start your day in work mode and maintain motivation.

Get some fresh air

Just like getting fresh air when you're in the office is a good idea, getting some fresh air when you're working from home is also going to help you have a better day. Staying cooped up inside and not getting any movement in will make you feel lethargic and you may get sick of your four walls, especially without your usual colleagues! Getting out into the garden or for a walk around the block can make the world of difference.

Move more

Start your day with a mindful yoga flow or some simple exercises. There are lots on Youtube you can follow for free.

Make your workspace inviting

Even if you don't have a study, making an area to work in is important. This might be a corner of your dining table but by adding a nice cushion, a lamp and your favourite stationary, it'll brighten up your work space and in turn, your mood!

Stay mindful

Being confined to your home for the majority of your waking day is a strange feeling that everyone is finding at the moment. Try not to get stressed about the news and what's going on outside. Why not try a meditation app like Calm? A guided meditation is great for keeping anxiousness at bay and helping you stay in the present moment.
